The HLC project is very community focused and great efforts have been made to ensure that the community has an input in the projects development and delivery. This has been done through the development of  Community Action Teams (CAT), The CAT, whose members are all residents from within the project boundaries, help the HLC teams to guide the project and also act as the voice of the community.

This teams are made up of local men and women of various ages who meet monthly to dicuss future project ideas, and also help to evaluate past and current projects and activities.

The Community Teams Aims and Objectives:

  • The role of the Community Action Team is to make recommendations to the Healthy Living Centre Steering Group in respect of programmes, activities and project development.
  • To encourage community ownership and involvement to design local solutions to meet local health needs.
  • Incorporate an understanding of what affects the health of communites based on consultation with people within the community as well as expert knowledge.
  • To suggest capacity building activities for the local community.
  • Community involvement in practical and management activities.
  • Community Action Team to meet every month.
  • To encourage greater involvement by the community in the planning and delivery of services in the area so that services are appropriate and responsive to need.
