Blackburn North Healthy Living Centre

Art projects

The art project uses art to explore young people's attitudes and raise awareness of many health related topics such as sexual health, alcohol, diet, drug and substance misuse and the importance of physical activities.

The aim of the project is to use mediums such as art that young people enjoy and in doing so, encouraging them to access appropriate material around certain health issues. This enables young people to develop knowledge around health issues, so that they can make their own informed choices and decisions.  The project also allows young people to grow mentally and emotionally by giving them the chance to express themselves, build relationships, build confidence, and work as a team.

The art project has used styles such as mosaics, drawing, painting and graffiti with each style aimed at the relevant groups, i.e. mosaics have been done with the younger age groups while the older ages have participated in graffiti style art making learning more fun.  Photography and drawing have been used to desgin posters with a health message, which will be printed and used to promote health themes and the Healthy Living Centre.

The art boards that have been created by the young people are displayed on the walls in the Healthy Living Centre.  Many young people have been involved in the projects and enjoyed taking part, and as a result, we now have some fantastic art work with lots of health information on display.
