Healthy Beat Schools

The Healthy Beat Schools project is delivered to local junior schools within the project area. Healthy Beat Schools is for children in years five and six and is delivered by members of the Healthy Living Centre team.

Healthy Beat Schools encourages and enable children to develop skills and knowledge in how to lead a healthy lifestyle. The children will learn games that they can play on their own or with groups of friends. The projects main aim is to encourage healthier lifestyle choices now and in the future.

The Healthy Beat Schools project will use two formats - education and activity:-

1) Education - Informal and interactive sessions can address the following health issues:

  • Heart and circulation
  • Benefits of exercise
  • Healthy Eating

2) Activity - fun activity sessions will add balance and variety to the Healthy Beat Schools programme. The nature of the activity sessions will emphasise fun and maximum participation, generally focuses around exercise and sports. The activities will include:

  • Dance
  • Circulation Circuit
  • Relays
  • Food tasting
  • Taster sports

Both items of the Healthy Beat Schools programme will be delivered in one hour sessions on a rotation basis through each of the participating schools in the project area. The project also links with the Artie Beat Campaign from the British Heart Foundation.
