Re-development of Gym Facilities

The Community Association in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Engagement Section and Blackburn North Healthy Living Centre is planning to re-develop the women’s gym by relocating it to rooms 38 and 39, which at present is a youth room. The men’s toilets would be adapted to create a bigger changing room for the women. This will make it possible to expand the current facilities, which will address the increase in demand. In order to find out what the community wants in the new extended gym a survey was carried out. This survey covered 60 women who are regular users of the gym. The results were: 61.6% of the women prioritized stepper over the rest of the machines. 58.5% of the women opted for treadmill making it as the second most popular machine. Bike and leg extensions were equally popular among the women, having percentage of 36.6%. 35% wanted new rowers in the gym. 31.6% of the women wanted chest press for the gym. The least in demand were the lateral pull down and the natural runner, former having 28.3%, latter having 23.3%. The women asked for other equipment like ab machines (23.3%), thigh equipment (5%), machine for pushups, a machine for a back, something toning the waist etc.The most popular among women was the demand for water, fans and paper towels (31.6%). 11.6% of the women, thought steam/sauna would be great to have in the new gym. 11.6% of the women wanted to have better showers and improved changing facilities. To keep their things safe while they are using the gym8.3% of the women asked for lockers in the gym. Some of the women reflected that the new gym should have a better CD player and a TV. (8.3%).6.6% of the women felt that there should be crèche facilities in the new gym. Other suggestions given by the women were, a bigger gym, regular maintenance of the gym, advice on exercise, and supervised gym at all times.
