The Seven Trees Pregnancy and Family Group is a client led service that meets on a weekly basis at Seven Trees Family Centre in Blackburn. Pregnant women are invited to the group and encouraged to bring relatives to the sessions and their children, as a creche is provided.

The aim of the group is to:

  • Improve access to maternity and health services with an aim to enhance maternal and fetal health outcomes.
  • Promote healthy living advice for the group including healthy eating and exercise
  • Ensure that the group is accessible, inclusive, informal, fun and interactive
  • To promote community development through a client led service
  • To involve statutory and voluntary agencies to deliver information sessions, with a focus on the women attending wishes and needs.

The group is led by local health professionals including health visitors and midwives and the Healthy Living Centre Health and Fitness Co-ordinator ends the session with relaxation with the women. A linkworker from the midwifery services also attends each session to provide support to the women attending.

The topics that have been discussed at the group have been at the request of the women attending and have included: labour, relaxation techniques, breast feeding, healthy lifestyles, baby care, babies lullabies, pain relief, postnatal depression, family planning, pain relief during pregnancy, postnatal depression and healthy eating.

The Seven Trees Family Group meet every Wednesday at 1:00 - 3:00pm at Seven Trees Family Centre in Brookhouse, Blackburn.
