Water is Cool![]() ![]() The Healthy Living Centre is working with local primary schools to promote the Water is Cool in Schools campaign. The aim is to raise awareness of the health benefits of drinking water every day and the effects on health that a lack of water can lead to. Mike Leaf, Director of Public Health for Blackburn with Darwen Primary Care Trust endorses the campaign and says, “It’s really important that we avoid being thirsty. If we don’t drink water we lose concentration and become tired and sleepy. However, we shouldn’t drink water in large quantities all at once. It’s best that we sip water slowly and regularly throughout the day.” Each child at participating schools receives a free water bottle and a colour information leaflet that parents can also read, (leaflets have been produced in English, Urdu and Gujarati). The leaflets have been produced in partnership with ERIC (Enuresis Resource and Information Centre). Each participating school receives a pack of information that supports the benefits of drinking water regularly throughout the day and provides practical guidelines on how schools can implement the bottles on desk scheme. The project is linked with the Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council 's Healthy School programme and will assist schools in obtaining the Healthy Eating Quality Standard and National Healthy Schools Status. The water bottles have been kindly donated by Nestle Waters Powwow who have supplied the Healthy Living Centre with a total of 1600 water bottles. The Water is Cool picture is a t-shirt that was designed by Billy Tatters as part of a HLC art project.
